Project SPARTA PH's SP901: Data Science and Machine Learning Using Python | 2.7.1 Supervised Machine Learning

Did you know that SP901 was released before SP202, introducing me to the world of Python programming? My first experience with this computer language left me feeling like a fish out of water, struggling to communicate with the machine, and the machine with me. (Ganti-ganti lang! Haha)

The journey into Python was demanding, somewhat painful, and at times, I found myself questioning why I was putting myself through it. But without further ado, let me share with you the snapshots of the weekly assignments for this course.

I made it in jpg form for you to type in your own Jupyter Notebook, by taking the time to type out our code in our Jupyter Notebook, we're not just copying and pasting; we're building a deeper knowledge of Python and the exciting world of supervised machine learning.

Learn From My Mistakes: SP401: Dashboard and Drill Down Analytics

This course is all about unlocking the true value of data, which is super important for us data analysts. In this course, it discussed KPI’s, metrics and we'll learn how to draw meaningful insights that can make a real difference in any company.

Now, I want to share my very first dashboard with you! As I started my journey of upskilling, I must admit, I learned a lot from my experiences. Looking back, I can now critique my own work, and it's kinda funny too. Haha!

Learn From My Mistakes: SP401: Dashboard and Drill Down Analytics
Learn From My Mistakes: SP401: Dashboard and Drill Down Analytics

Here are three important lessons I learned from my first dashboard:
1. Research on Color Palettes: I realized that choosing the right colors for the dashboard is crucial to make it visually appealing and easy to understand.

2. Tell a Story with KPIs: Instead of just showing raw numbers, I should focus on identifying related KPIs that can help me craft a compelling story or insight. That way, my data presentations will be more engaging and impactful.

3. Embrace Different Charts: I could have done it better if I learned about different charts, it's usage and explanation it is portraying.

As I recall, I didn't use any pivot table/chart in this dashboard. Even though I didn't use those in my very first dashboard, it was still a great starting point for me. I'm eager to enhance my skills and become more proficient in using various data visualization tools.

Well, that is my first and I am glad I do start. This skill is an additional package of what I am now and I am grateful to SPARTA for giving out this kind of FREE education for all.

If you want a copy of my Excel dashboard, feel free to drop us a message on our Facebook Page. Keep learning and enjoy your data analytics journey! Happy Learning!

TOPIC: SINGAPORE RACE IN FLATTENING THE CURVE | SP503 Storytelling Using Data

SP503 Storytelling Using Data was the last course released by Project SPARTA PH for Data Analyst Pathway. The course is consisted of 20 videos which you can finish in a day. Weeks 1 to 2 basically recaps what you have learned from previous courses, Week 3 is for how to build/parts of story and Week 4 teaches you how to deliver the story and the capstone.

I spent almost 3 weeks to do the capstone. My topic is about, of course, COVID-19. People are clamouring for health and economic effects but Singapore is looking beyond and already doing measures to mitigate the impact.

I know city governments of Philippines can learn on the steps taken by Singapore to answer this kind of issues during pandemic. And that is the reason why I chose my city, Caloocan, to be my imaginary audience during my storytelling presentation.

I really do hope Caloocan officials will be moved and take action to study what Singapore is already implementing.

Tips on SPARTA’s SP601 Data-Driven Research Fundamentals

6.3.1 The Door-to-Door Caravan Sampling Problem is the capstone for the SPARTA’s SP601 and I am not proud to mention that I spent more than 2 months (yuletide season is my alibi haha) to finish the course and almost 3 weeks in capstone.

After I finished all the lectures and the challenging quizzes, it’s time for capstone. My brain shut down after reading the instructions and seeing the downloaded dataset. I didn’t know where to start. Didn’t know what to do. Haha. But it is fine, just let your brain relax first before going to an all out war Naks!

Why I am writing this? I do not want you to be like me, wasting time glaring at the ceiling while thinking how to slay the capstone.

So let’s dive into it.
1. Download the data. Read and re-read the instructions. The research paper should at least have the following parts:
● Introduction
    o Background
    o Problem Statement
    o Scope and Limitations
● Literature Review
    o Available Research on this
    o Gap Analysis
● Proposed Research Design
o Step by Step Research Design to Solve the Problem
    o Proposed Data Analysis Methodologies
         Quantitative
         Qualitative
● Implementation Plan
● Bibliography

2. Go back to your notes. What is the first lesson? Correct! First lesson is about PROBLEM STATEMENT.
Do not be fooled by introduction or background. Skip it for now and focus on the problem statement. How to formulate it? Read again the dataset. There’s a guide question right? From there you map out a nice research questions for your to solve.
From that too you can form your title too.. (wink-wink)

3. Skip the scope and limitation.

4. Now let’s go on with the literature review. This is where the real grind starts. Haha. Inhale-exhale! Google your research questions, check-out Google scholars using keywords of the problem statement.

Be a member of Academia. Do not forget what we have learned from week 2.
    a. Identify the Research Topic You Want to Explore They should be flexible in their conceptualization of the research problem being investigated They should begin with broad idea and be prepared to narrow it down as they progress
    b. Review the Sources to get an overview of that research topic
    c. Develop a Search Strategy
    d. Conduct the search and select specific articles to review
    e. Obtain titles or full text references of journal articles or book
    f. Read the artices and prepare bibliographic information and notes on each
    g. Analyse the research findings and synthesise.
Check out the integrity of the paper. Read, highlight and comprehend. From there you might see the light in the end of the tunnel. Haha.

5. While reading research you may ask your self that something is missing or further research can be done. Welcome that idea and include on the gap analysis. Remember to cite the papers properly to avoid plagiarism.

6. Go back to week 3 about research design. Here you can indicate the sampling, instruments and analysis method you will use. Where to get data? Data from Philippine Statistics Authority.

7. Implementation Plan. As the term implies, you can incorporate to answer all the capstone guide questions indicated on the downloadable data in this section. Explain how you implement the formula, your graphs or tables.

Tips on SPARTA’s SP601 Data-Driven Research Fundamentals -

Data-Driven Research Fundamentals Final Capstone Project The Door-to-Door Caravan Sampling Problem

8. Bibliography. Include all the citations you’ve used.

9. Then we go back on areas we have skipped. Give a background; a summary for what people will learn from your research. Indicate the scope of your study and limitations.

10. And you’re done! Hope you enjoyed the process. ;)

Do not stress yourself too much. If you have questions replay again lessons from Ms. Regine Tejada.
This is my very first time to do a proper research paper. Wala kami nito sa panahon namin. (Napaghahalataan na ang edad haha).
If I can do it. Kayo din. Okay? Good luck classmates.
PS: if you have other tips, comment it to our comment section.

This is SPARTA! I am a SPARTAN!

2020 is a year of uncertainty. I left my job and the weirdest thing all I want is to stay safe at home with my husband.
On my spare time last May, I took some free courses from IBM, YouTube and Udemy. Well, I just don’t want to waste my time on nonsense.
While waiting at the bus stop, I stumbled on SPARTA. With no hesitations, I registered right there and then and immediately finished my existing courses for me to start my journey to SPARTA.
Why I focus on SPARTA?
This year 2020, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) announced that there’s shortage of highly skilled professionals of 38-40 million and to address this problem, they launced the Project DARE (Data Analytics Raising Employment). Responding in to that concern, the Philippines, lead by DOST (Department of Sciece and Technology) developed the SPARTA (Smarter Philippines Through R&D, Training and Adoption) program.
DOST partners with Development Academy of the Philippines, Analytics Association of the Philippines and CourseBank targeting 30,000 scholars not only to be trained but also intends to retain and provide jobs for the scholars.
Yes! DOST! To be part of Philippines’ DOST is a prestigious moment for me.

Do not be fooled with the course. It is DOST. As scholars, you are expected to give the best out of you. It reminds me of my college days (professors giving the introduction but they are expecting that you will give the full report by next day), it gives me sleepless nights and I am exhausting all resources. As in all, not only internet but also the knowledge from my friends, nephews and nieces. It is challenging and exciting. Thrilling! My brain is churning! Woootwooot!
I finished three subjects as of now and can’t wait to finish the whole program. 🙂 Imagine, your classmates now are your future colleagues after graduating.
Mabuhay SPARTA Scholars!

Your Vision Must Be Bigger Than Your Job!

I once managed a team of men. Yes men! All were men. And not just only men, but all are Licensed Customs Broker in Philippines. Each of us have different companies to supervise and be held accounted for but never did I know that there’s a standard in managing a project or stakeholders.

As I have stumbled upon PMI, well, not PMI colleges that we know in Philippines but PMI (Project Management Institute) - the world’s leading association for project, program or portfolio management. This 50+ year old organization built the standard, tools, resources and even community to give certifications for professionals in management industry.
So why I have chosen to take their Project Management for Beginners? Well of course, this is a good way for me to be exposed on bits of information in importance, influence and role of Project Manager. That will be a good knowledge once I get on board on future company.
Why act as a simple employee if you can contribute your knowledge in project/program management? :)

NEM Blockchain on International Trade Business

In shipping a cargo there are many people involve to send your shipment from point A to point B. And when I say many, it means a lot. From supplier, common carriers, insurance companies, banks, governments, and do not negate the power of force majeure.

The more parties getting their hand on your documents, the more it is prone to unforseen mishaps.

Although World Customs Organization is pushing to be paperless, it is inevitable to use papers. And until now, shipping business is still not fully implementing it. Why? This is to provide authenticity on the original documents. And going digital can’t solve it until now.

Blockchain technology is one of the answer to this. Actually not only on that tons of authenticity problem but also on payments and automation.

For me that can’t write a single code, I will imply my idea to NEM Technology. Why NEM? Because it has built-in features in its wallet. Built-in!

Here’s the problem we will be solving.
1. Authenticity of your Documents
2. Tracking of your shipment
3. Payments

Steps how to solve that:
1. Download your NEM Wallet here! And announce on your website that all NEM authenticated documents will only be from that NEM account/address.
2. Apostille(notarize) documents that you will release for the shipment (Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Packing List, Insurance Certificate, or even Certificate of Origin)
3. Create your own coin to serve as a payment on that transaction. This can replace your Letter of Credit.
4. Create a multisignature account for every key people involved and every step you want to track.
-for example: the haulier picked-up the cargo from the supplier’s warehouse. The supplier will sign on the multisignature account and it will signal the movement of the cargo.

When the last signatory signed on the account and it showed as the job was done, all payments will automatically be released to the different accounts to be paid off.

If you want to expound more about this, please do message the NEM Foundation at NEM Helpdesk

And Happy 4th Birthday NEM :)

What is a Freight Forwarder? Yes! You Needed One!

Millions of tons and billions of value of goods are transported each DAY! Yes each day! That is how the international trade has increased since then. On that massive spike of cargoes moving around the globe, freight forwarders plays a big role.

So what is a freight forwarder?
Freight forwarder is a company who doesn’t own a ship or a plane, or a train but is one of the trusted companies to do shipping.

Best Freight Forwarder Singapore Real Time Forwarding Pte Ltd.JPG

Freight Forwarder is the intermediary company that builds good reputation and relationship in all corners of logistics process. It provides the full range of shipping services that logistics need. They can get the cheapest rate and fastest sailing schedule for you. You can compare them to be like the “skyscanner” or your favourite travel agency for your cargo.

They mitigate all the hassles and pressures of international trade. Freight Forwarders are experts and are updated about the new laws and memorandums of each and every country in which they can give free advices on what is the best for your shipment. It is like you employed a whole team and all you can hear is the good news.

Now, you will not wonder why a lot of people is availing their services.

They can move your goods from a small box to as huge as a whole ship or plane. Oh, even for your whole personal household, they can manage to do it for you. Now you know when you buy online, you can get a free or in a minimal shipping fee. 🤗

Integrity in the Midst of Instability

Blockchain/bitcoin was built entirely because of Satoshi Nakamoto's frustration in our banking system and the society that evolves on it. Now that his advocacy is a wild craze, people from all walks of life are jumping in to join the party. Yes all! Even the bad guys!

Last week, Coincheck was compromised and hit the record-high hack for the blockchain industry. Cryptonauts expected that there will be chaos and another massive suicide watch list but Coincheck surprised them all with their decision. Koichiro Wada announced early this week that they will pay off the platform users who were affected by that incident. That is the first time in the entire history of blockchain that someone stood up to return their missing coins. That's integrity! Thanks Coincheck.

Then we go to questioning NEM's decision.

Aren't you tired to obey rules and laws? Tired of banks asking you question why are you withdrawing your chunk of savings or just a mere scenario of teller asking what is your source of income when depositing a huge amount. Well, this is for them to comply in many regulations they need to follow as bank. The banks do not want to be tagged as non-compliant or accepting funds from illicit businesses.

Imagine, a good neighbourhood was attacked by an intruder, forced to take one of your valuables and settled in one of the nearby houses. What are you going to do? Nothing? Really?

No! It is either all the villagers will march to the occupied house and take their valuables again, or just remember that address and intruder's face and never help or do business with him.

transparent, safe, secure and compliant ecosystem of NEM
NEM NEIGHBORHOOD

I saw that NEM proves that blockchain can build a transparent, safe, secure and a compliant ecosystem. That move from NEM (flagged the address and taint those hacked XEMs) is not only to comply on laws and clamors of its members and stakeholders but it is a moral obligation for its community.

Now, because of tainted XEMs no one wants to get involved with the hacker’s address. Why? It will affect the POI (Proof of Importance) of Nano wallet addresses who will do transactions with it.
Transparency solves the problems in preventing the dirty money (AML/CTF) to get involved in this new technology. Good job NEM!

Coincheck thanks for the integrity in this business. Thank you both for making this blockchain world a better place

NEM (XEM) Awakening the Giant

Enormous count of people was looking forward for the bursting of the "cryptocurrency bubble". They are comparing it to the dotcom mania that lead many investors into bankruptcy.  So what you should do to avoid this? Look at the intrinsic value of the companies, their projects, and platforms.

I discussed two big coins... Bitcoin and Ether, now let's wake-up the giant, XEM.

The opportunity clock is set-up to ring for NEM this 2018. And before the giant gets off on his bed, Abbey and I is already investing with XEM, greatly (time and money).

So here’s why:
1. As you can see, NEM is consistent in top coin Market Cap.

2. They have this NEM:Helpdesk that you can connect 24/7.

3. They are conditioned in marketing their platform not in marketing their coin. Main reason why XEM was not "hyped". But don't get me wrong that you cannot make money in NEM. If you invested last November, your money gained 4500%+ up to this date.

4. ICOs are now testing NEM's blockchain. Some ICOs built on it this 2017 are LoyalCoin, Bankera, Comsa, Qchain.

5. We all know how Japan is playing a big part in world's future technology and how Korea is doing pumping funds in crypto world. They are the two biggest supporters of NEM. This is a tip. You are welcome.

6. What are the features that some blockchains do not have.
-- Smart Assets. This is like Ethereum's Smart Contract but of course way better. Why? It can be customized. This is to prevent bugs,  hacks or you just want to edit its protocols.

-- Multi-Signature. This is a good service that will benefit the companies or even couples. Imagine, you cannot facilitate any transactions with your spouse keys! Haha!

-- Mijin, a well-known private blockchain in Japan is Nem's sister company. Nem (public) and Mijin (private) can network with no hassles.

-- Do you want to take part in saving the world? Do not mine bitcoin and waste electrical resources. Go on and harvest at NEM blockchain, even your computer is off, your supernodes will do the work for you. Proof of Importance. Means? Well, be a VIP! Instead of buying hardwares to solve puzzles in Bitcoin's blockchain, buy XEM and prove your importance in the community. How important are you? It depends on how many Xem you have, how long you have those, and the number of transactions you have to sustain healthy economy within NEM community.

-- Catapult is already running in Mijin blockchain and do you know catapult can process more than 3,000 transaction per second... it is faster than Visa! :)

-- Do you remember the time when all listed companies can just print and print stocks certificates? It is a free money for companies. Right? Now, it is illegal. Well, don't expect it with NEM. XEMs are all out! So no giving birth of new coin under this blockchain. Expect that your coin is a complete representation of your share with NEM.

-- Their wallet can run voting system. NEM community enjoys this poll. It just like voting in a board meeting. Oh! We as NEMbers really can feel our participation and voice bring heard by NEM frontliners.

Many more projects were lined up to take effect this 2018! That is why all XEM holders are so excited for next year!

Yes! In 2018, the opportunity clock of NEM the Giant is set to alarm and it will be awakened!

Why will I buy and run after bitcoin or ether's expensive coin... I will buy and HODL more xem. :)

Tandaan, Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.

It is either uutang or bebenta ng palugi ang mga ari-arian.

What is (ETH) Ethereum?

So. Now. We need to talk about the number one competitor of bitcoin. The ETHEREUM.

News Flash! Ether, which is represented by Ethereum is not a cryptocurrency. Yes! It is not a currency that you can use to buy coffee at your favorite cafe or staffs online. It is not use as money or medium of exchange. It is a "gas" (as described by Vitalik).

Ethereum is an "upgraded" blockchain of Bitcoin. They were equipped with Smart Contract.

So what is this Smart Contract? It is an execution and automation of "ifs or trigger". For example, every month you need to pay mortgage of your home, Ethereum blockchain can be set up automatically and will deduct money from your account monthly. And to execute that, you need "gas" which we called ETHER.

Bitcoin will be used by people as a currency. And imagine how big will be the demand for ETH if all in Enterprise Ehthereum Alliance (EEA) deploys its projects. More projects means more smart contract means more gas (ETH) they need.

Below are the big companies who are members of Enterprise Ethereum Alliance.

Enterprise Ethereum Alliance Members - members of EEA
Enterprise Ethereum Alliance Members - members of EEA

Below is the blockchain tech that central banks of the world are working on. Ethereum toppled down Bitcoin because of Smart Contract.

Types of blockchain tech central banks are working with
Types of Blockchain Tech Central Banks are Working With

Big companies and governments are now challenging the Ethereum technology and Vitalik's team do not waste time to upgrade and cater the needs of those companies.

Oh one more thing! You see so many ICOs coming out. Right? Most of their platforms uses Ethereum. And some of those coins are not available worldwide, so why fret and be depressed? Buy the platform they are using. This is a tip! Yes you are welcome!

Do not be late in this big wave of change.

LEVERAGE - Why this word IMPORTANT to SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE

I won’t discuss here the differences between rich and poor people that maybe you heard million times with other financial literacy talks and read on your social media sites. In here, I will talk about on where the rich people uses the word LEVERAGE.

Let’s get to the point:
1. TIME - We all have 24 hours in a day but why majority asked themselves why others seem to accomplished many things and why they don’t. Successful people know how to manage their time and priorities. They know the limited time they have in every single day, so they leverage on other people’s time. They knew how valuable their time is and that is the main reason they wisely delegate tasks to the people they hire. They carefully chooses, trains and trusts the people under their wings. They are not wired to micro-manage their business but they are equipped to expand their ventures.

Time is a very expensive commodity. No one can buy time to have it back or to have more.

2. TALENT - Ultra successful people admit to the themselves that they DO NOT KNOW EVERYTHING and that is the primary cause why they hire people who is wiser, skillful and more experienced than them.

They leverage other people's talent for the benefit of their companies. They trained themselves to listen to new ideas and suggestions. They are willing to spend huge amount of money just to get the best talents.

3. MONEY - You will not see successful people on the streets selling their ideas. Investors come to them and demands to take their money and be their partner. They are so well-known to be trusted about money of others and on that, they know how to expand or make their ideas work through other peoples’ money. Oh, and one more thing, if banks phones you offering you a loan, sending you a credit card without credit limit or sending you blank cheque... CELEBRATE! The bank is seeing something in your bank account that most of the people don’t have.

Build a reputation that everyone will trust and make business with you. TRUST and REPUTATION are the main ingredients for you to maximize the power of other people’s money. A small talk of negativity will risk all the foundation you constructed. Be very careful not to mire the trust of your investors.

4. SYSTEM - Whenever you set foot at McDonalds or Starbucks ordinary people will see the products but goal oriented people see the SYSTEM behind every successful businesses. And that is why, the franchise was born. We all know that McDonalds do not serve the best burger in the world but why people love them? It is the marketing, the development of their products and quality of staff’s services. It means, the system. Rich people invest on system, people, vision and not entirely on the PRODUCT.

Franchising is the most effective way to join the company’s achievements. Multi-level marketing too. Why compete with the giants? Join the giants! It saves your time, your energy and the success rate is high.

Or if you think you are better than them, innovate their system. 🙂

Hope these four enlightens you as you go through your life and make the most of these things that you need to LEVERAGE. Start step by step. And you will prove that it will fast track to reach your goal. 🙂

The Five Greatest Commandments of Multi-Level Marketing / Direct Selling

Multi-level marketing? Really Wilma? You will discuss this? Well, why not? I saw my sister's bank account proliferate in a way I didn't expect. That time she is a member of Sundance, Avon and even Tupperware.

She became a millionaire! Below, I will tell you how she've done it and I do hope that words, sentences, and paragraphs below will enlighten you that not all MLM or Direct Selling are scams. For all the first timers and people in this kind of business who's not generating much, this post is for you.

MLM is not a Pyramid Scheme. First of all, let's differentiate Multi-Level Marketing/Direct Selling from Pyramid Scam.

SOURCE HERE
Now that we all know the differences, let's go to our main subject for this blog post.

The Five Greatest Commandments of Multi-Level Marketing / Direct Selling
1. Do your homework. Investigate the company.
It is a non-sense if you will put money to a company you didn’t even know. Research for its legal documents. Does it have a good reputation among multi-level marketers? Interview your upline. Review its program and understand the compensation plan.

2. Be a customer.. a “LOYAL CUSTOMER” of the product they are offering.
Find a company with a product you love to use. MLM/Direct Selling companies offers goods (unlike Pyramid Scheme), be the number one fan of their products.

Your enthusiasm, your life changing story, health benefits you are experiencing is an indirect marketing. Your personal success and relief and fashion in using your product will be an inspiration to others.

My sister believed in the product she sells and she is so into it. We tried the Sundance sandals and we loved it too! Every one in our family became her customer. Even our relatives, then our community.

3. Expect rejection and be ridiculed BUT remember why they say NO.
Here comes why some of MLM marketers / direct sellers were tagged as annoying people. They were trained to pursue people until they get their YES! Oh my! It annoys me too.

Do not pressure your family and bombard your facebook friends with your private messages to be your downline or get a product from you. Please put some respect and dignity to yourself.

If you asked them and silence is a response, learn to walk away. You will save a ton of your own effort, time and energy to people that will eventually will not work for the success of your team.

MLM is a team effort. Greater result will be accomplished when working together hand-in-hand.

Clear?!

4. Don’t show off your cheque or money.
Let’s face it! Many people in this MLM circle is exaggerating their income. Haha! This is to trick the other people for them to be their new recruits.

Here is a NEWS FLASH for all of you: MLM is not easy! You need to work your a$$ off to get your target income.

I remember my older sister carrying too many boxes of shoes and other products. How many is many? That our house looks like a warehouse. If you need a marketer? Look for my sister. Haha!

There is no reputable company that will pitch a quick-rich scheme. Remember that.

5. Don't damage your INTEGRITY.
Only tell the truth, do not fabricate success stories just to encourage people to sign-up or buy your products. Be honest and for sure they will make another business with you.
